Atlas is a standard apple, described as a Winter St. Lawrence seedling from the Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa. Sources give the Ottawa origin date as 1910 or 1912, and one directory says it was introduced in 1924. [S1] [S2]
Prairie sources describe Atlas as a fairly large dessert or kitchen apple of good quality. The fruit is above medium in size, roundish to conic, and somewhat ribbed, with pale yellow skin washed and striped with orange red. The flesh is described as tender, juicy, pleasant, spicy, and sub-acid. [S1] [S2]
